Head off the highway and explore some of the best 4WD areas Australia has to offer, with an endless number of tracks available that vary from easy to extremely difficult. And if you don't have your own 4WD, one of the many tour operators will provide you with a hassle free adventure and one or two adventure stories of their own. Even motorbike trail riding tours are available.
The Alpine National Park stretches from Walhalla in Victoria's south-east to Canberra, Australia's capital city, and is an excellent place to spend a weekend, a week or even a month four-wheel driving. However, many tracks in the Alpine National Park close during the winter period (June to November) so check with Parks Victoria during these times. Drive yourself:

Thanks to its appearance as a location in the film The Man from Snowy River, Craig's Hut at Mount Stirling has become the most visited cattlemen hut in the Victorian high country. The drive to Craig's Hut is worth it for the views, but the trip to the summit is slightly technical with the track at times becoming quite rocky, so carry recovery gear.
